Cold, Rain, and Momentum: Victorian Walking Football Squads Set Sights on Sydney

Updated: Oct 5

It was the final training session today—Saturday, 3 October—for all the Victorian Walking Football squads across the 50s, 60s, and 70s age groups. As the last major hit-out before the WFFA Cup in Sydney next weekend, the teams are as ready as they will ever be.
True to Melbourne's unpredictable form, it rained nearly the entire two-hour session. Yet, not a single drop of water could dampen the players' spirits. While a handful of squad members were absent today, they will be right alongside the rest of the team when we touch down in Sydney next week.
The excitement is palpable, especially considering where this group started. Just eight months ago, many of these players had hardly even met one another. It was through the vision and initiative of the Walking Football Friendship League (WFFL) that players from all corners of Victoria were drawn together to form these state teams.
Whether these squads come home with a medal is almost secondary to the extraordinary milestone we’ve already achieved: bringing so many Walking Footballers together like never before.
Over the coming months, our vision is for the strength of the WFFL to expand across the entire state—building a powerhouse where Victoria is always a formidable contender for national Walking Football trophies.
The big question is: are you on the journey with us?
Watch this space next week to see how our Victorian teams fare in Sydney!
