Road to Sydney: Vic Walking Football Squads Lock In at Knox

Knox Regional Football Centre was the venue for Saturday’s Victorian Walking Football State team training session as preparations ramp up ahead of October’s WFFA National Titles in Sydney.

Twenty-four players split into four teams—Men’s 50s, 60s, 70s, and a composite side—ensuring maximum pitch time across a high-tempo, full two-hour session.

Squad Additions & Pitch Adaptation

The state program is delighted to welcome two key additions to the squads:

• Chris Camwell joins the Men’s 50s squad.

• Will Chadwick links up with the Men’s 70s team.

The wider pitch dimensions at Knox provided an ideal rehearsal environment, closely mirroring the pitch layouts teams will encounter in Sydney. The benefit of higher-intensity match simulations over recent months was clearly evident, with all squads demonstrating sharp ball movement, increased fitness, and improving team combinations. Captains also took the opportunity to test tactical flexibility, ensuring the squads remain adaptable under pressure in the event of travel absences or injuries.

Looking Ahead: September Double-Header

The 50s team proudly suited up in full Victorian team kit during the hit-out to build visual familiarity and synergy ahead of competition.

With approximately eight weeks remaining before heading north to face interstate rivals, two additional Saturday training sessions are planned for September to finalize preparations:

• Saturday, 5 September (Venue TBC)

• Saturday, 19 September (Venue TBC)

Please lock both dates into your calendars. With returning players and new additions integrating into the setup, maximizing time together on the park is vital.

Beyond the pitch, squad chemistry continues to grow—highlighted by a strong turnout of players sharing a meal and drinks together following Saturday's session.
