We did it!

After five months of dedication, planning, and shared passion, the Walking Football Friendship League (WFFL) reached an incredible new milestone. On Wednesday, 24 June, in partnership with Football Victoria, we brought together over 50 Walking Footballers at the prestigious Home of the Matildas!

This wasn't just a great day out—it was the biggest gathering of Walking Footballers in Victorian history. Players travelled from all corners of the state, well beyond the Melbourne suburbs, united by a simple, shared purpose: to play the game they love.

The Magic of the WFFL Format

As always with the WFFL, we bucked the trend of traditional club structures. Instead of inviting pre-formed teams, we gathered everyone together and split them into randomised squads. And once again, it worked a treat!

This unique format breaks down barriers, allowing players to mix, mingle, and share the pitch with people they might otherwise never meet. Over time, these random pairings have built something truly special: a genuine, supportive community. We aren't just a league anymore; we are a family.

Friendship First, Competition Second

While a few competitive spirits were undoubtedly keeping a quiet mental tally of wins, draws, and losses, the scoreboard was never the point of the day. The true victory was found in competitive friendship, shared laughter, and the joy of expanding our Walking Football universe.

For some, the day served as valuable preparation for the upcoming WFFA Cup in October, giving nominated age-category captains a fantastic opportunity to observe talent in action. For everyone else, it was simply a wonderful way to get more touches on the ball, stay active, and make new friends.

A Heartfelt Thank You

A massive thank you to Football Victoria, and a special shout-out to Georgie for hosting us so beautifully and putting on a fantastic lunch afterward.

This historic day gave us all a brilliant taste of what is possible for the future of our sport in Victoria. The bar has been set high, and we all want more!

KOW!
